China controls 87% of the rare earths market which is making Electric Vehicle (EV) Brands nervous. They have asked Chinese EV manufacturers to diversify the supply chain and source some of the rare earths required from outside China, says Pensana. No-one is clear about the precise nature of the demands or conversations and timing, volumes and details are not known at this point. The rare earth market is fragmented so it will be interesting to see how the demands by the EV Brands will be met.
